On My Mind, Running

Weekly Training – March 6 – 12

This week was both good & bad…bad because I missed a day of running, good because I actually did a workout! Within a 12 miler! So there’s that.

I really need to get better at just making running a priority. As a busy mom there are so many (mostly legit) excuses why we can’t do things for ourselves. But really, when we are completely committed to something, we can make the time. That is something I have struggled with this training cycle. For a couple months before I got pregnant, during my pregnancy, and for many months after Corra was born, I have just done hobby-jogger running. Ran because I liked it and wanted to have some level of fitness. But I let SO many things take precedence over it; it became easy to miss a day of running. And now that I’m committed and want to train hard it’s been a lot harder to break those habits. Luckily, the desire is finally there, but old habits die hard + a really busy husband so sometimes I still just don’t run. That’s what happened Tuesday. I woke up and told myself I was going to do a workout later in the day after Nate was done with work. Well Nate came home later than usual, then had to leave super quick to head out of town (TO FINALLY BUY US A MINIVAN! Look for a post on that coming soon) so I hurried and made some dinner and got him out the door. Then, instead of at least going down and biking or something, I just did nothing. I just made the excuse that because Nate left I couldn’t do anything. True, I couldn’t go run anymore, BUT I could have gone down and biked in our basement, or at least did yoga, lifts, etc…  SOMETHING would have been better than the nothing I did. I made a goal that on those days where things don’t go to plan that I’m at least going to do something…anything to further my fitness. Then I can feel confident that I did all in my control to do my best.

Anyway, just had to get that outta my mind 🙂

Here’s how the week went:

Monday: 7.5 miles @ 9:13 pace with Bree. Icy, 20 degrees, 20 mph winds. Snow blowing in my eye balls. Hence why I left it at 7.5 instead of 8…was SO done with this run.

Tuesday: nothing, nada, 0.

Wednesday: 7 miles @ 7:37 pace. The best Bree watched my babes so I could run while Nate was outta town. Was real windy, but 48 degrees & dry roads! Does wonders for me.

Thursday: 90 min on my bike (I have my road bike hooked up to a trainer). Warmed up for 30 mins. 50 mins of 2 mins hard/2 mins easy. Cooled down for 10 mins.

Friday: 9 miles @ 8:07 pace. Was real tired. And my bum was sore from the bike! Did 35 min of yoga after.

Saturday: 12 miles @ 8:04 pace. The average pace is way off cause I just kept my watch running even while stopping to talk, etc. during the run. At mile 7 I did a mini workout of 1 min @ 6:00- 6:15 pace, 2 min easy, repeated 8 times, then cooled down 2 miles to make it 12 for the day. Longest I have gone since before Corra & first workout before her too! Felt pretty good to end the week strong! We made the first “Workout Wednesday” video during this run…check for it on Wednesday!

My support crew + Nate pulling them. Made a huge difference to have some company!

Next week 55+ miles, lifting at least once and yoga at least once!

-till next time-
