On My Mind, Running

Week of Training – February 6-11.

I thought I would start doing my training review posts separately from my other posts for better documentation.

This week was better, but still not where I wanted it to be. Last Sunday night I started feeling sick AGAIN! I think my really bad cold migrated to my sinuses and it hit me hard. I got on antibiotics and finally feel BETTER. Like no lingering stuff. Well, except for just being tired. So hopefully training can actually start happening like I want!

Monday: 6 miles on the treadmil @ 8:00 pace. Tried to keep it easy cause I wasn’t feeling good. Followed by an hour of lifting

Tuesday: 6 miles in 8:54 pace. Ran in 3 inches of slush. It hailed on me. There was hurricane wind. AKA miserable run.

Wednesday: AM – 1 mile jog, walk, slip, etc. Attempted to run but everything was pure ICE. All the snow had started melting then it turned cold fast and iced everything. I gave up and went home. PM- 8.5 miles in 8 min pace with Nate’s ISU girls. I ran in a TANK & SHORTS for part of this run…glorious.

Thursday: Didn’t run…super tired in the morning, then Nate didn’t get home till late, I was unmotivated, etc etc. Made me frustrated at myself.

Friday: 7.6 miles @ 8:33. Was tired & sad. Ran slow.

Saturday: 6 miles @ 8:33. Started the day so determined to run 12 to get a total of 40 for the week…ended the day happy I ran at all. Nate had a home meet this weekend and was gone ALL DAY Friday & Saturday and Ames was pushing every button I have + we were at the meet for a long time and it’s just tiring wrangling those 2 kiddos sometimes.


I was feeling really discouraged about it and that my miles are still pretty low and slow. BUT the more I thought about it it’s probably a good thing as I was still a little sick. My goal for next week is 45 miles & lifting twice…as Ames always says, “Let’s do it!!” ha 🙂

  1. I love that you are writing about your training!! I love your reading about it! It makes me feel good that I am not the only one going through the struggle of trying to balance running, kids and a busy husband! It is not easy and can be so discouraging. But, it can also be very rewarding when you get it in knowing how hard it is to actually get it in! I am finding the time for the running but can’t seem to find the time for the lifting!! It’s driving me crazy!
